Grace Rainey Rogers Auditorium, The Metropolitan Museum of Art
Our annual concert was developed in an effort to provide individuals with vision loss the opportunity to experience visual art through music. For our 21st year, we will showcase a wide variety of genres and styles that represent the best of our students and music school. A special feature of the program is rising jazz star, Matthew Whitaker, who will perform an iconic Dave Brubeck piece and his own composition with trio and quartet. We will also feature a spotlight on movement exhibited through the artistry of dancer Mana Hashimoto. Music included is Bridge Over Troubled Water, For Good from ‘Wicked,’ Ricky Ian Gordon’s ‘A Horse with Wings,’ Survivor/I Will Survive, original compositions by our own Yo Kano and Matthew Whitaker, and much more. Projected images of art — photographs, a Japanese silk screen scroll, a bronze sculpture, Native American textile art will be accompanied by verbal descriptions as narrated by actor Michelle Hurst – to complement the music.
The concert is free with admission to the museum.
