Lighthouse Guild recognizes and rewards excellence in vision care and research through three annual scientific awards. These awards have long supported breakthroughs in vision loss research and vision care.
Established in 2001 to honor Alfred W. Bressler, Esq., a distinguished New York attorney and benefactor, the Bressler Prize in Vision Science recognizes established mid-career vision clinicians or scientists whose leadership, research and service have led to important advancements in the understanding of vision loss, treatment of eye disease or the rehabilitation of people with vision loss.
Established in 1981, the Pisart Award in Vision Science recognizes early-career vision clinicians or scientists whose noteworthy, innovative and scholarly contributions have the potential for substantial influence in the understanding of vision loss, treatment of eye disease or the rehabilitation of people with vision loss. It is funded in part through a bequest of Mme. Georgette Pisart, a long-time Lighthouse Guild volunteer.
Established in 2012, the Oberdorfer Award in Low Vision Research was created in collaboration with the ARVO Foundation for Eye Research with the support of Lighthouse Guild and recognizes an individual for his/her role in furthering low vision research and rehabilitation.
